“We are exceptionally fortunate that Dean has chosen to commit to King’s for at least the next couple of years.

We pride ourselves in having great coaches and Dean has been at the top of that list for a while. He’s just come from winning the U13 Competition with a great Green Island Team and most of those young men have chosen King’s as well. He will bring a huge amount of knowledge to all of the coaches involved and challenge us to get better so it’s a huge win on both fronts”.

Dean has brought a very strong team with him to assist in the two-year process of developing all players who play for our Panthers and Tigers teams.

Ryan Griffith (1990-1995) is a King’s Old Boy and also current Green Island Premier Coach who will look after our scrummaging development.

Richard Buchanan (2009-2013) is also a King’s Old Boy with a wealth of experience and will look after the forwards.

Dan Koni who has been a staff member at King’s since 2004 is also the Head of Touch at King’s so there will be a lot of transferrable skills developed for those boys who play Touch as well. Dan will help drive the defence and set-piece attack for our backlines.

In addition to this line up; Devon Oliver Bell is the son of the previous King’s 1st XV Coach and Otago Fullback, Andre Bell. Devon plays for the Dunedin Sharks club and is looking forward to working with the U14 Tigers in 2021

Sam Donaldson will also assist Devon as forwards and defence coach for the U14 Tigers.

Dave Conrad, King’s Manager of Sport, will manage the U14 Panthers. Dave has coached the 1st XV and has had both sons Paul and Simon go through King’s, also representing 1st XV Rugby.

Glenn Dickson will assist Dean in the running of the U14 program and will lead the skill development and ‘Lions' Way’ philosophy.

Glenn and Dean will also be appointing a number of position-specific resource coaches to ensure players are maximising improvement throughout the season.

Pre-Season training begins on Thursday, February 17th for those players who don’t play summer sport or would like to attend.
