Do you want to gain experience in the Ecology field?

Vicki Jopson —

Do you want to know what real field biologists and geographers do?

Operation Wallacea is a conservation research organization that specialises in expeditions for School and University students.

The past 18 months have been incredibly difficult for students to gain experience in the ecology field, but we are here to help with some brand new training opportunities that don’t require any international travel at all!

Local Field Course: Makarora Valley, Titea Mt Aspiring National Park

We are offering a local field ecology and data analysis course in the Makarora Valley, South Island in January, for students who want to see what real field biologists and geographers do and learn how to collect and analyse biodiversity data.

The expedition will be run in conjunction with the Aspiring Biodiversity Trust, partly located in the Titea Mt Aspiring National Park and is a UNESCO World Heritage Area so it is truly a wonderful location for field research opportunities and is the perfect time of year for biodiversity monitoring.

The Makarora Valley course is designed to complement the matrices for NCEA Biology, (adaptation, evolutionary processes, speciation & ecological communities) and Geography, (natural processes, research methodologies & spatial analysis) at Levels 2 and 3.

There is also the opportunity to use the course as part of internal assessments for these curricula. The role and importance of the local community are prioritized and with regards to all activities carried out.
