The Surfing Groms are Charging
Our surfing boys have travelled from one end of NZ to the other - riding the waves with impressive results.
The boys in the Summer of ’25 have been on their usual program, travelling all over Aotearoa competing in both the NZ and South Island Series. The commitment to chase down points is unbelievable as they jumped from Piha to Mount Maunganui to Whangamata, then back down south again to the Duke in Christchurch.
The most notable performances lately have been the efforts of Jack Higgins and Kalani Summerton. Jack took out both divisions (U16 & U18) in the recent Otago Surfing Championships. Then in the past week, took out the recent U16 title at The Duke Festival of Surfing in Christchurch.
Other notable successes include:
Kalani Summerton won the U14s in Westport; won the U14 Otago Surfing Championships and placed 3rd in the Duke Festival in Christchurch.
Keo Morrison placed second (U16) in the The Connect Group Grom Series (Westport).
Flint Sherborne-France placed 2nd in the Otago Surfing Championships, a 5th in Piha and a 4th in the Connect Group Grom Series (Westport) for the U16s.
Lewis Murphy is due for another big performance after his stunning display at the Nationals (3rd U18s). He has had a string of 5th places up and down the country and will be looking to the South Island Surfing Championships to make a statement.
Chris Jenks placed 4th in the Otago Surfing Championships and is probably our most improving surfer.
Kalani Summerton placed 5th in Piha U14s and 3rd in the Otago Surfing Championship U16s.
Max Wooffindin (Y9) placed 5th in the U14s and 5th in the U16s at the Otago Surfing Championships.
