King's PTSA

Paula Benson-Gamble —

Please note change of first meeting date. If you’d like to find out what’s happening at King’s, and help make a positive difference to the school, then please think about joining the King’s PTSA (Parent/Caregiver/Guardian, Teacher, Student Association).

Your PTSA is currently made up of a small, friendly group of six parents and two teachers. Our main aim is to assist the school in any areas it needs help (such as Open Nights and Sports Evenings), and to fund-raise to help provide valuable resources for the school (such as Year 9 Scholarships, Prizegiving Awards, library books and classroom resources).

To work out what’s needed, or wanted, staff attach ‘wishes’ onto a poster in the staff room (these are things such as a giant outdoor chess set, which we are currently looking at purchasing for students to use during their breaks). We then discuss these wishes during our meetings to determine if we can provide the funding or resources to make them happen.

One of our parents, Jeanette Robinson-Tromop, voluntarily runs our Second-Hand School Uniform Shop which is located inside a classroom at school. Jeanette does a fabulous job of keeping track of all the uniform items that come in for sale on behalf of their owners. These uniforms are either gifted to the PTSA, or 80% of the sale price goes back to the owners once they’ve sold.

We meet on the second Wednesday of each month (except December). Meetings alternate between being held from 7-8pm at the school library, or from 6pm at Rope and Twine, 67 Macandrew Road (formerly known as Robbies Bar and Bistro), followed by dinner after the meeting.

Up-to-date information about what we’re doing is on our facebook page, ‘Kings High School PTSA Dunedin’, and we also have our contact details and information on the school’s website.

Our next meeting is on Wednesday, 20th February from 7:00-8:00pm in the school library, which is a great time to come along and see what we’re all about (tea/coffee and snacks are provided). Or, if you’re the sort of person who’s keen to get stuck in and wants to hold a position, our Annual General Meeting is on 13 March (7:00pm in the school library), which is when we will vote in our next President, Secretary and Treasurer. We’d love to see you there!
