Haere Mai Mr McIvor

Jo Harford —

On Tuesday the school community gathered to welcome Nick McIvor to King’s with a Pōwhiri.

Komene Cassidy and Te Wera King gave whaikōrero on behalf of the community from King's and Timaru respectively, paving the way for various speakers and groups to address Mr McIvor, Mrs McIvor, students, staff and invited guests.

Our two cultural groups welcomed their new Rector with He Waka Kōtuia performing a haka pōwhiri and a waiata and King’s of the Pacific performing a traditional song.

Below is the speech Head Boy, Nathan Hastie delivered at the event:

"Mr McIvor and family, on behalf of the student body, it is my pleasure to welcome you to King's High School.

Your arrival at the school has been keenly awaited. For us and clearly also for you, this has been a year of transition and we are more than ready to settle in and work together for our joint future. We have heard much about your work, passion and reputation in education and are really excited to have you here for the start of a new era for our school.

King’s High School is not only unique in the three disciplines but is also unique for the strength of its culture of character. We are proud to be known for our atmosphere of care and respect - an atmosphere that is distinctive and valued across the community. This school is like no other and I am sure you will come to love it as much as we do.

Mr. McIvor, my leadership team and I can’t wait to get to know you and to work with you.

We are all very excited to see what new ideas and approaches you have in store for us and in what ways we can go even further forward, together. Welcome to our school home, which we are very glad will also be your home with us. Thank you for shifting your life and family to work with us. I’m sure you will quickly come to see that that has been a terrific choice. Please know that we are here for you and with you.

Mr. McIvor we offer you our very best wishes as you embark on your new journey. We are proud to welcome you as our new Rector."
