BYOD - Bring Your Own Device

Mark Greenfield —

As we reach the end of week one, classes are beginning to ramp up the teaching and learning.

As a BYOD school, staff are anticipating that all students have their device with them each day for use during each lesson, as needed.

Our Wi-fi network is robust and flexible enough to accommodate all brands of BYOD, but for practical purposes, we have a minimum screen size requirement of 9.7”.  We have found that any smaller is difficult to use effectively in the classroom. This means that cell phones cannot be used and small tablets will not be permitted.

We appreciate that BYOD is an investment and encourage the use of hard cases or school lockers to protect devices from accidental damage, like the kind that comes from casually thrown bags beneath desks or on the courtyard in break times.

Sometimes though, circumstances beyond a student’s control may prevent him from bringing a device. To aid students in this situation, it is possible for them to loan a device for the day from our Library.

This service is available from 8.20am to 8.40am each morning and works on a first-in, first-served basis. It is also possible to get a device during the Interval break if circumstances prevent the student from getting one prior to the start of the school day.

If circumstances mean a student requires a longer-term loan device please make contact with Mr Greenfield on: gf@kingshigh.school.nz
