King's bands full of promise at Rockquest

Kaine Harington —

King's High School was ably represented at the Smokefree Rockquest Otago Regional Heats last Saturday, with two bands competing for spots in the Regional Final.

First up from King's at the event was MeloKeys. Made up of Te Kahurangi McLean, Christian Fogavai, CJ Henry and Nathaniel Strange (previously performing under the name M.C.S), the boys are no strangers to the competition. They wowed the crowd with their soulful original song and had the girls swooning.

Amped Up, featuring Levi Simpson, Ashane De Silva, Ted Menzies and Blake Hughes were next and they had a sound that was powerful beyond their years. Being their first Rockquest, excitement was in the air for their performance and they brought energy and stage presence to wow the audience with their song. "Leaving".

On the day, 23 bands competed with just 12 bands being put through to the finals - in one of the most tightly contested heats in the country. I'm delighted to report that MeloKeys were invited to perform at the Smokefree Rockquest Regional Finals at the Mayfair Theatre on June 25th at 7pm.

Readers can be assured that although Amped Up were not fortunate enough to be invited, this is not the last you have heard of them!
