Simon Cushen —

King's High School Colts Cricket Team beat Wakatipu High School by 52 runs to retain the Cushen - Mawhinney Trophy for junior cricket supremacy between the two schools.

King’s lost the toss and were asked to bat first on a fresh grass wicket at King’s. They made their way to 157 for 5 declared with Alex Burleigh hitting 42 not out and Reuben Potgieter 27. King's then bowled Wakatipu out for 113 with Jonty Davidson taking an impressive 6 for 23 off 8 overs, remarkable figures for a young leg spin bowler. In reply King's limped through to 116 with Alex again top scoring and showing excellent technique with 41 runs. This set Wakatipu the achievable target of 155.

King’s Colts hunted like a pride of lions and bowled Wakatipu out for 103. Jonty Davidson achieved a remarkable double taking 5 for 58 to give him man of the match figures off 25.3 overs, 2 maidens, 11 wickets for 81 runs. This was not only a match winning effort but remarkable bowling figures for a Year 9 cricketer. Well done Jonty!
