New Zealand Economics Competition

The University of Auckland, Business School, Department of Economics runs a prestigious event that showcases the exceptional talent New Zealand secondary students have in Economics.

The competition tests students' knowledge of economic theory and current economic issues. In 2021 it was an online competition.

Within each division, awards are allocated on a national basis as follows:

  • High Distinction: top 10%
  • Distinction: next 15% (top 11-25%)
  • Credit: next 25% (top 26-50%)
  • Participation: all other students

3 King's students participated and achieved high accolades:

 High Distinction:

  • Calan McDermott = top 10%, finishing 20th in his division
  • Russell Gin = top 10% finishing 49th in his division

Distinction:

  • Scott Greenfield = top 11-25% of students
