Cross Country Season Begins

Grant Koedyk —

On Tuesday 7th May the annual Logan Park Road Race was held in sunny conditions, with a new course. The start and finish is now at the Caledonian and this added to the excitement for our 22 runners.

The Junior boys ran a 2.5km course and Brayden Scott was in the leading group as they headed out of the stadium. As the course headed back to the stadium Brayden held 2nd position with another competitor chasing him down. Brayden ended up having to sprint the last 400m to hold off the 3rd place runner and maintain 2nd place in the smart time of 9:49.7. It was a very good race for the start of the season for Brayden.

The Senior boys ran a 5km course which meant they did two laps. George Bates, Ezekiel Stewart and Spencer Gable were all in the leading group after the first lap. The pressure came on in the 2nd lap. The leading group became more spread out and King’s ended up with George Bates 2nd in a time of 18:03, Ezekiel Stewart 3rd in a time of 18:08 and Spencer Gable 4th in a time of 18:20.

The rest of our group ran well and were pleased to get the season underway. They are all looking forward to the Caversham Relays which will be held at King’s next Thursday 16th May.
