1st XI Football Team vs an intergenerational Kingsmen team
The annual 1st XI Football fixture vs The Kingsmen XI (KHSOBA) took place on Anzac Day this year, in sunny, but windy conditions.
The 1st XI have a number of qualifiers for nationals this year, so coach Cam McPhail thought a tough match against some experienced players would be ideal.
The Kingsmen side featured a few different generations:
Current staff member David van Zanten played for the 1st XI in 1978; three Salisbury’s - Ben and Luke are former Kingsmen, John (father) is on staff; two Scott’s – Bradley and Noah; 2020 Head Boy, and Dux George Bates, and Connor Neil who currently plays in the South Island league for the Dunedin City Royals.
Tom Milton scored mid-way through the first half to give the Kingsmen the lead and a deft touch from Connor Neil with about 15 minutes to go sealed it for the side, 2-0. Noah Scott and Jonty Davidson were named player-of-the-day for their respective sides.
Thank you to Mr McPhail for refereeing the match and we wish them all the best for the season ahead.
The Kingsmen squad: David van Zanten, John Salisbury, Bradley Scott, Tom Connor, Lennox Wilkins, Connor Neil, Tom Milton, Ben Taylor, Raven August, Noah Scott, George Bates, Ben Salisbury, Luke Salisbury.
