Success at South Island Secondary Schools Swimming Championships

Daniel Harvey —

The King's Relay teams completed a clean sweep of placings from 1st to 4th at the championships in Dunedin on 18th and 19th June

The meet was billed as a 'Fun Meet', which it lived up to, with multiple relays and a couple of unconventional races. Despite this billing it drew a very strong field including a team of 23 swimmers from Burnside High School in Christchurch.

The Water Polo Relay team of Isaac Robertson (Year 13), William McFarlane (Year 9), Aidan Blair (Year 11), and Noah Brummitt (Year 10) won thanks in large part to a blistering 3rd leg by Aidan Blair. The Kick Relay team came second, Freestyle Relay 3rd and Medley 4th.

The stand out individual performance came from William McFarlane who came 1st in the 100 Freestyle, 2nd in the 100 Butterfly and 50 Freestyle and 3rd in the 50 Fly.

Alfie Weatherston-Harvey (Year 10) placed 2nd in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Backstroke, 3rd in the 50 Backstroke and 3rd in the elimination 200 Freestyle.

Isaac Robertson pulled out a 3rd place in the 16 – 18 age group for 50 Breaststroke. Noah Brummitt despite not placing, finished 4th in three events and 5th in another.
