Work Day 18th September

Nick McIvor —

On Friday 18th September (Term 3 – Week 9), the King's High School Student Council will be holding its annual Work Day. Students will not be attending school on this day.

Work Day is being held to raise funds to support a diverse range of projects, groups and activities throughout the school. Without these funds, the school would not be able to provide such activities with ease and, in some cases, at all.

So far in 2020, the School Council has been able to contribute towards events such as the Year 9 Good Man Evening, House Day Events, the school’s Breakfast Club, as well as items such as the new school BBQs, C-Pens to be used by students in class, and a range of crockery for the school to host events in a sustainable way.

This year will also be the first year that the Student Council will be assisting the School Formal to alleviate some of the costs associated with this event. The School Council has also provided sponsorship to the school’s Water Polo and Cross Country teams, as well as supporting individuals in Cycling and Dog Agility.

What we do appreciate is that 2020 has been a year of great difficulty financially for families; however, we have provided students with plenty of lead in time to arrange jobs to complete for others on the day. It is important to acknowledge that students of King’s at this time are benefitting from those who have gone before them with the contributions from previous Work Days.

Students who have existing jobs are encouraged to inform their employers that they are potentially available for extra hours. Some ideas to be considered are for students to contact family or neighbours about Work Day, its function and its purpose and whether they can be of assistance. We encourage your son to find himself work that he can carry out for some or part of the day. We ask that a minimum of $20 from his day’s work be contributed to the School Council.

Unlike previous years, there will be no opportunity for students to be at school and volunteer as we are unable to provide supervision due to our staff being involved in Professional Development.

All money will be collected by your son’s Group Teacher on the morning of Monday 21st September, at Group Time.

Thank you
