Junior Speeches awarded in Pasifika Voices Competition

Jope Tudreu —

The Pasifika Voices is an annual event that celebrates Pasifika languages and culture. It is the only Pasifika event that students are able to share the opinions about their struggles as Pasifika through speech. The themes for the speech competition were:

  • Junior Speech: "It is important to protect our culture as it is the foundation of our identity"
  • Senior Speech : “If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.”

We were lucky to have two junior participants this year and we were able to walk away with the following awards:

Atunaisa Maiono Year 10: 1st in the'Mother Tongue Category'

Ryan Nafatali Year 9: 2nd in the 'Junior Category'

We were appreciative of the support of our parents, seniors and the vocal support of our sisters at Queen's High School, who cheered us on as we got to present our speeches. Hopefully the experience from this event will be a motivator for our Pasifika brothers to participate in next year’s speech competition.
