Relay for Life

Jo O'Brien —

The King’s team took to the Caledonian track on Saturday 17th March with our youngest member, 13 month old Jimmy Cromarty, leading our campaign with his mum Hannah Cromarty. Jo O’Brien, Tonia Calverley, Barbara May, Bernadette Tenci, Fiona Thomas, Rachel Heller, Jamie Cole, Cam McPhail, Bradley Scott and (after the rugby) Vicki Jopson, Dan Reddiex, Gareth Hore and Sheldon Revell also represented King's at the event.

The team thinned out during the 6 – 8am stretch but was held together by a skeleton crew of Cam and Barbara who were later joined by Simon Cushen, Gareth and Jo. The not-so-fit among us were still suffering midweek while the athletes took it all in their stride.

Big thanks to our student contingent of Liam Hewson, Riley Smith, Janadhi Dissanayake, Ieuan Stables, Freddy Beltcher, Cameron Fletcher, JT,  Asif Azam, Jordan Frost and Alex van der Weerden who got us through some of the leaner periods when walkers’ feet and stomachs needed attention.

A great event and uplifting to see the numbers of secondary and tertiary students getting involved in their community. Cancer is something that affects us all either directly or indirectly and the event provided time and space to reflect on those we love that have lost their battle, those currently fighting theirs and the survivors, all brave and courageous individuals.

Thank you to those who supported us and special thanks to Michael 'Reggie' Reggett for tending to all logistical requirements for set up and pack down over the weekend.
