On Tuesday, 8th August, the University of Otago’s Classics Programme and the Classical Association of Otago held the annual Dunedin Secondary School’s Classics Quiz! 

Two King’s High School teams battled in the University Union arena for a placing amongst other intellectual gladiators, with You Odyssey us win (Caellan Agnew, Tristan Brown, and Massimo Pezzuto) and The Faeries (A combined team of Columba College and King’s students: Adam Salisbury and Seva Solomatenko), both being awarded third-equal and only a few points behind first and second. 

As questions were asked on Mythology, Classics at the Otago Museum, names and places, events and dates, Language and literacy, and pick and mix, the room was buzzing with laughter, cheers, and applause. This year’s quiz reaffirmed the enduring appeal of ancient History and the bonds it forges between young minds. The timeless allure of ancient Greece and Rome lives on through tomorrow’s budding scholars, and eager participation hints at a promising future for the study of Classics.
