Calling all Paddlers

Wayne McMillan —

Would you like to try something new, develop a cultural connection, develop a sense of team, have fun, and do something out of the ordinary? Then this is for you. King's would like to start a Waka Ama Paddlers Club, but first we need you, King's men, men of the Pacific!

Waka Ama, or Outrigger Canoes, are part of the culture of Pacific peoples – from Hawai'i in the North, Rapanui in the East, Tahiti in the Centre and Aotearoa New Zealand in the South. This stable boat moves through the water using nothing but the power of the human body. Values such as Kotahitanga – inclusivity, Whanaungatanga – belonging, identity and collective strength are fundamental and important aspects of Waka Ama.

This is open to all students, especially those looking to start their first sport at King's or just want to try something new. Please drop me a line to register your interest in Waka Ama taster sessions, wm@kingshigh.school.nz
