Living and Breathing Academic Excellence!

Dan Reddiex —

Last week we highlighted the amazing Scholarship results achieved by our students in 2018.

While the media coverage of this herculean feat was underwhelming, we are looking forward to a full school celebration next Friday when the young men who attained these returns, along with the staff who facilitated their success, will be recognised in an appropriate format.

This week the focus turns to the entire senior school as we reflect on another outstanding year academically. The table above really does speak volumes. The NCEA pass rates are between 15 and 25% above the national averages, and between 20 and 30% above the national boys’ averages. These are remarkable returns and reflect the reality that every student in our school is catered for, encouraged and compelled to reach his potential.

It is also noteworthy our Maori students were between 15 and 30% above the national averages and our Pasifika students between 20 and 40% above the national averages across the three NCEA levels.

When you combine this with the unprecedented level of Merit and Excellence Certificate endorsements gained by our students (resulting in four academic Blues assemblies being held this term) it is very easy to see why we are so proud of our young men and their achievements. They are embracing personal excellence and the culture of academic excellence has pervaded the entire school. The end result is that our young men are equipping themselves with the knowledge and the qualifications to unlock the pathways they wish to pursue and ultimately realise their passions and their dreams.

It is a great time to be involved with King’s High School. These are successes worthy of being shared and celebrated.
