Economic Extension for Scholarship Candidates

Tonia Calverley —

On Thursday evening students preparing for the Scholarship Economics examination attended a briefing from the Hon David Parker, Minister of Trade on New Zealand’s Trade Policy in Turbulent Times.

Wide reading and exposure to the broader economic landscape is essential to Scholarship study and the boys were exposed to ideas and policy around free trade, overseas investment, Brexit, trade agreements and the essential nature of trade to the New Zealand economy to maintain living standards.

This is the second seminar we have attended this year offered by the Otago Southland Employers Association that we have been able to enjoy as members. The students also got to hear from other members of the audience during question time of issues that are important to local employers and manufacturers which broadens their understanding of the impact of government policies.
