King's boys tugging the Heart Strings on cello & violin

Three King's boys selected for the Dunedin Youth Orchestra.

The Dunedin Youth Orchestra (DYO) have their first (sold out) concert of the year on Friday 28th March and once again features three of our own young Kingsmen.

The three talented Year 12 musicians - Aidan Blakie (cello), Sam Moore (cello) and Torben Barlev (violin) - were selected for a second year running - third year for Aidan - to perform as members of this elite orchestra for their 2025 season.

The DYO is Dunedin’s premier Amateur Orchestra for young classical musicians. The majority of the 60-strong orchestra comprises of university students with only about 10 from high schools; three of whom come from King's.

During the year, the DYO plays at various events including the Mid Winter Festival, Christmas Carnival and as the backing orchestra for the Otago Concerto Competition U25s. Last year, they even played with the NZ Symphony Orchestra.
