Easy as riding a bike ... hardly!

King's Jacob & Ben Shaw riding at BMX National Championships.

Over the weekend, Jacob and Ben Shaw competed at BMX Nationals in Southland. Ultimately this is what they train towards and race for all season.

With wet and cold conditions on Saturday, then great, fine and sunny conditions on Sunday, it sure made for exciting and varied racing.

Both boys raced hard and consistently well all weekend, securing themselves places in their respective finals. Jacob finished NZ6 in the 17-29 Men’s age group which is a pretty amazing achievement, as well as double classing in Cruiser and bringing home NZ4. Ben finished NZ4 in 15 Boys, also a great achievement after qualifying 3rd and avoiding a crash in his final.

Former Kingsman Cameron Laing also made the final in the 17-29 Men, finishing NZ3.

With their placings at Nationals, Jacob and Ben have now qualified to ride at the 2026 UCI BMX World Championships in Brisbane. Impressive result lads – well done.
