Farewell to John Salisbury

After eight years of loyal service to King's High School, John Salisbury bids us farewell today.

Having taught in Japan for many years before he joined us at King's, John found the NCEA system very different and, while getting his head around it, he thought that "N A M E" on the top of test papers was an odd way of asking for one's name.

He had never taught at a school with blazers and such a strict uniform code, and a boys-only environment was unusual. Beyond this, though, he was amazed at how competent and enthusiastic teachers were while working with engaged and polite students in a place with high expectations for learning.

John's highlights have been Year 9 and 10 camps, sports trips away and seeing students achieve more than they thought they could. He has been a regular in the Staff versus Prefects sporting fixtures and will take today's 3-1 win in the Football away as a great memory.

On parting, John has said that "King's is a special place for many reasons. We have a very diverse student body with all sorts of personalities and interests but, above all else, a pervading culture of acceptance and belonging."

John heads off to Saudi Arabia to work on a project called 'The Line' and plans to visit King's in a year or so to share some of his interesting new experiences.

Go well, John!
