A group of six Year 9 and 10 boys attended the Science Wānanga at Ōtākou Marae, earlier this term. On day one with perfect weather conditions they visited the Otago Peninsula Eco Restoration Alliance where they were taken on a guided tour and lucky enough to spot some hoiho (yellow-eyed penguins). In the evening, Tuki Potiki and Iwikau Te Aika led a haka lesson teaching the Kaikorai Valley College students and some of the scientists a well known haka from Ōtākou “Tēnei tō tai roa”.

On day two, the students took part in a hands-on workshops with the scientists from the University of Otago. These scientists were specialists in a range of fields including - fresh water, geckos and lizards, spiders, bees and more.
