Leadership - Primary School

KingsWay School —

The 2023 Year 6 Councils Structure Information

KingsWay School’s mission is to be a Christian community of learning that nurtures young people towards their full potential as servant leaders in the kingdom of God. This statement guides our Council/ Leadership programme in Year 6, where our senior students have the opportunity to be school leaders throughout their final year in primary and prepare them for Middle School.

We have changed our Leadership Structure slightly for 2023 to align with our Middle and Senior School Councils and accommodate our growth in the Primary School.

To allow all our students to thrive in various leadership roles, our departments will now be referred to as YEAR 6 COUNCILS.

  • The seven councils listed below are rotated over two terms for each class
  • Each council will have a specific focus guided by a staff member
  • The “Whanau Leaders” will form part of the other councils and will not hold a separate portfolio as they did in previous years
  • Badges are given to all students in a council

Year 6 Councils

SERVICE

  • Road Patrol Council - Early morning duties to assist students who are dropped off at the school entrance. Help promote Road safety and awareness.
  • Library Council - Assist in the library- issuing and returning books and being available for children who want a quiet space to read and rest at lunchtime.

MISSIONS

  • Missions Council - Promoting termly mission fundraisers by informing students of the cause behind the fundraiser. Supporting the KWS vision of serving others.

ARTS

  • IT/Media/Arts Council - Assisting, setting up and running the IT / sound equipment for all events and arts rotations held at the Primary campus.

PEER SUPPORT

  • Whanau Council - Promote whole school activities, e.g. Cross Country and Athletics Day activities. Council members cheer others on and can get others to cheer, too. If someone else does well, then we all win! Great house spirit between Darby, Cook, Braddock and Youngman.
  • Peacemakers - To be a friend to those children who need assistance at lunchtime navigating friendships and helping children make good choices at school, giving solutions and offering advice.

SPORTS

  • Sports Council - Assist students at lunchtime in taking out sports equipment. Creating groups to play at lunch where all children can 'give it a go' and get involved.
