1st XI Hockey Girls

The first XI hockey girls put up a great fight against the Rangitoto Junior team. It has been very unfortunate that quite a few of our girls are out with injuries so we were playing with only one sub. Because of this we knew it was going to be physically difficult, so we went out with a fighting attitude. As a team we made sure our communication was up so that we would work better together. We actually ended up surprising ourselves when it was 0-0 for the first three quarters, but sadly the game ended at a score or 0-1 to Rangi as they managed to score in the last quarter. We had some really good shots at goal too, but we were unlucky when they just missed going straight into the corner. Overall, I am very proud of the way the team fought especially when fatigue started setting in in the last quarter. Great job girls!

Year 7-9 Girls Basketball JBL team

The KingsWay Year 7-9 Girls A team had another good game on Monday night. Right from the tip-off our team was off to a very strong start, shooting a layup in the first 5 seconds. Our team worked together so well, retrieving rebounds, trapping the defence and always having an option to pass. We tried out our arrow formation for defence that our amazing coach, Mrs Morris, taught us and kept getting the ball back. Whangaparāoa college did very well, also scoring baskets and having some good shots. The scoreboard at the end was 48-26 to Kingsway with one teammate scoring their very first basket.

Benefits of sport for your child

Sport has traditionally been viewed as a way to stay healthy but its importance goes much further. Playing sports teaches life lessons like discipline, responsibility, self-confidence, accountability, and teamwork.

Studies have shown that exercise increases blood flow to the brain and helps the body build more connections, leading to increased concentration, enhanced memory, stimulated creativity, and better-developed problem solving skills. In short, playing sport can help with academic achievement.

From a social standpoint, sports are a powerful tool that brings people together and creates a sense of community. They develop friendships and connections that bond together people from all walks of life.
