Year 8 Newsletter
Week 9, Term 1
Dear Parents, Caregivers and Whānau,
Thank you to all those parents who took time to meet with teachers online to discuss your child's progress. When we all work together the best outcomes are achieved for students in every area of their development. It has been a busy term and we have been impressed by the way the Year 8s have stepped up in their ability to manage themselves.
Overview of Physical Education for Term 1:
This term students started with a range of team-building activities to create a community where everyone was valued and important and had ideas to add to the group by trying various ideas to solve the problems. Activities included a variety of silent line-up activities, flip-the-tarp and working as a team to try and keep a beach ball afloat. We then moved on to looking at Ultimate Frisbee with a connection to the main tactical concepts of Invasion Games, which allows the students to transfer knowledge into various sports they are involved in. This has involved looking at and practising various throwing and catching techniques used in Ultimate Frisbee before moving into a range of other small-sided games that helped students put the techniques they had been learning into a game situation. Key tactical concepts included maintaining and regaining possession, scoring and stopping the other team from scoring and moving into and defending space.
