Senior Campus Notices - 7 Feb, 2020

KingsWay School —

Please read the following news and notices for the Senior School.

Dear Parents,

Welcome back to KingsWay for 2020. We hope and pray that this year all students would grow spiritually, academically, relationally and in wisdom. NCEA results came out during the break and we should celebrate with students who achieved the academic goals they had set for themselves last year. To those who may have been disappointed in their results, our hope and prayer for them this year is that they find their unique strengths and grow further in the direction that God is calling them into.

We have had a great start to the year, beginning with Year 13 Camp in week 1, followed by Year 10 orientation day and Year 13 on Purpose day in week two.

On the 29th January we set off with just under 100 excited year 13 students to Marsden Bay Christian Camp. Every year we pray over a focus and verse for camp, which embodies our belief for the cohort. This year “Authentic” was our theme. We wanted to see students stepping out in faith and being spirit led and to discover who they are in Christ authentically. The verse we used was; Ephesians 2:10- “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago”. Students formed bonds with peers and staff at camp that revealed Gods goodness as laughter and joy carried us through three days of connection. The staff had an amazing time and we are excited to see what God has in store for us this year.

On Purpose Day (Year 13’s with Year 9’s)

It was tremendous to see our Year 13’s working alongside teachers to make a fun day for the Year 9’s on Monday 3rd February. One of the amazing strengths we have at KingsWay is a strong community where students are mutually supportive of each other in a caring, open environment.

Year 12 and 13 Study Periods

Year 12 and 13 students who have a study in period 6 (the last period of the day), may choose to leave school at the start of period 6 if they want to. This year, there will be no written permission required. The main point to note is that they must report out using the Vistab in the library before they leave school. Please remind students who do have study periods that it is vital that they remain in the library, or their assigned area, and should not be wandering around the school.

Reminders:

1. Whole School Parent Evening: (Wednesday 12th February 7pm onwards). You are warmly invited to attend this event next Wednesday, during which there will be a whole school presentation in the Events Centre, followed by a time that you can meet your student’s Form Teachers and Classroom teachers.

2. Subject changes will be closed off by the end of week 3 (Friday 14th February). Please ensure that your students’ course selection is suitable for their academic ability and future aspirations. Changing courses any time after the first two weeks will undermine their ability to gain the credits available in their respective courses.

3. If you have received an email communication, either from Head of School or a Head of Faculty advising that your student should make a subject change, we strongly advise that you take this recommendation seriously. This is especially important for Level 1 students who have different English and Science options. Being in the wrong course at this level is problematic as it will likely have implications for 2021.
