Junior Campus Notices - Week 10, Term 3, 2019

KingsWay School —

Please read the following parent notices for the Junior Campus.

A Note from Nicky Heyns

Year 0-2 Learning Area

We were able to cover a number of curriculum areas through our FOOD topic this term.

In Science, we looked at the effects of temperature on food.

In Social Studies, we enjoyed food from different cultures.

In Technology, we explored how the machines in our kitchens work.

In Health, we learned about making healthy food choices and what foods our bodies need to function well.

We were able to link this into Bible stories about food such as the “Loaves and the Fishes” as well as how God provided for the Israelites in the wilderness. Other natural links were “The Fruits of the Spirit” and Jesus as the Bread of Life.

The students also produced beautiful art works related to our topic.

Many children brought in treats from their culture and some parents came in to do cooking demonstrations.

This is one of our favourite topics and one that our students thoroughly enjoyed.

Junior Campus Nut Allergy Policy

There is a blanket ban on Peanuts in anything.

If you are bringing food to share with your students class, please contact their teacher at least 24 hours ahead and advise of this.

The teacher will then inform you if there are allergies to be aware of in that class and also alert the parents of any student with severe allergies when there will be shared food

Children are strongly encouraged to NEVER share food and always wash their hands.

Health Centre

The Junior Campus Health Centre is looking for unwanted Primary uniform clothing as stock is getting low. Spare uniform clothing is kept at the Health Centre in the event of accidents where children have wet or muddy clothing. If your child goes home with spare clothing from the Health Centre, please wash and return to the office as soon as possible.

Please Note: There are a lot of uniform items that have not been returned to the office. This is making it very difficult when children are requiring a change of clothes.

Zone Days

YEAR 5 & 6 CRICKET ZONE DAY

The Cricket Zone day is coming up next term. This event is for any ability, whether you have played before or not. Girls' are strongly encouraged to join in as there is also a girls' section. If your child would like to participate in this day, please register your interest by emailing Raelene.Beguely@kingsway.school.nz by the end of the school holiday. Invitations to play will be sent out early next term.

We also need umpires for this day (November 7th) so if there are any Year 7-13 students who are keen to help (cricket ability can vary – all information will be given), please also contact Mrs Beguely as soon as possible. Of course, parental permission will needed in order to do this.

YEAR 5 & 6 CROSS COUNTRY ZONE DAY

A few weeks ago, we sent a team to the local school’s Cross Country Zone Day. The level of running ability was amazing and our runners did a great job. Congratulations to our individual runners – Norah Bennett ( Year 5 girls - 9th), Zach Hamilton (Year 5 boys - 11th), and our Year 6 girls Riley Bonner (10th), Susanna Greening (11th), Lucia Thompson (14th) and Jessica O’Malley (18th). Special mention also to our Girls’ relay teams – Year 6 placed 2nd, and the Year 5 placed 3rd. Well done to all. Thanks to our amazing parents for helping on the day with transport, considering the short notice given.

Also, thanks to the Year 9 team of students, supervised by teacher Aimee Fitzgerald, for their great work in setting up the course and as marshals and helpers on the day. You guys were great and I had so many people giving our school compliments about your amazing efforts. Well done!

We also sent teams to the Football and Hockey Zone Days, and Rippa Rugby earlier in the term. These were fun days and the children enjoyed themselves. Thanks to all parents who were able to help on those days, plus to any supporters who came to cheer our teams on.
