Community Update, 31 August 2021

KingsWay School —

A Note from Graeme Budler, Executive Principal

Dear KingsWay Community,

I trust you are surviving the wild weather. We now have some certainty with the announcement that Auckland remains in Alert Level 4 for the next two weeks. I aim to provide more guidance on Alert Level 3 once we approach a move to this level.

Meanwhile, the management continues to plan for various scenarios and adjust programmes to support students’ progress, especially seniors. Our primary staff are also preparing additional home learning packs, which we will courier to you shortly.

Just a reminder of our new lockdown protocol:

Experience has taught us that accessing digital platforms for extended times causes stress and fatigue. The management has scheduled a mid-week technology break on Wednesday afternoons to allow staff, students and parents a rest. From 1 pm on Wednesday, there is an online communication moratorium. This practice will not impact teaching sessions. Please use this time to spend quality time with your family or prepare for the rest of the week. You are still welcome to contact me if there is an emergency.

God bless,

Graeme Budler
Executive Principal

Wellbeing

As we continue to adjust to the ongoing demands of extended lockdown, consider these useful tips for maintaining your wellbeing, and that of your family.

  1. Whatever you feed grows. Feed your mind with hopeful, positive, helpful messages. Meditate on your favourite scriptures, recount five things to be thankful for, and gatekeep what you consume from the media.

  1. Celebrate the small wins. Getting from A-Z is not the goal, getting from A-B is! Look for opportunities to catch the kids doing good things, see an uninterrupted online meeting as a win to a bigger success, and keep the process in mind as much as the outcome.

  1. Listen and validate. Your experience, and the experience of your children, of this time is valid. Be aware of unhelpful internal voices that are dismissive or divisive. Listen to the feelings of others and validate them. A brave face is not indifferent to feelings and experience – it is showing courage as we validate and navigate them!
