Junior Campus Notices - Week 10, Term 3

KingsWay School —

Please read the following parent notices for the Junior Campus.

NOTICES FOR THE WEEK:

Item from the Head of Learning Area, Year 5|6

There is a ‘buzz’ among our Year 6 students, who are preparing for their end of year camp next term. This camp, combined with their upcoming graduation “I can do this” is the attitude we want in every learner. While working through a devotion page with my students we learnt that the attitude of Caleb to intimidation he faced while walking into the promised land was “we can certainly do it”. Developing this attitude when facing learning challenges is a key aspect of discipleship. Every learner is faced with scenarios that stretch their knowledge and faith but when we look at challenges through the lens of the Word of God we see that nothing is impossible.

In Year 5 and 6 this term we’ve covered topics that include geometry, poetry, persuasive writing and Maori culture. My personal favourite has been reading student responses to the argument for banning sugary treats in school. Against my expectation, a number of students put forward convincing arguments for banning them!.. I have been thinking twice before diving into my chocolate biscuit at morning tea.

Cross country training was a big part of our physical education programme at the start of term, culminating in the event out at Shakespear Regional Park. A highlight of the event was children of all ages cheering and encouraging each other – great to see!

This week we celebrated the Foundation of KingsWay school with a whole school assembly. We heard from Graham Braddock about the journey of faith for the foundation of KingsWay and Helen Pearson shared on the importance of Christian education. It reminds us that, here at KingsWay, we are part of something special!

All the best for the remainder of Term three.

William Trayes
Head of Learning Area Year 5|6

Library

Due to our upcoming renovations in the studios, the Library is moving to a new location in the school foyer. We have an exciting design concept which we are looking forward to unveiling at the start of 2019.

In preparation for this, we are carrying out a book audit next term. Every book is going to be counted and checked. This book audit will be happening throughout Term 4. Please have a big hunt during the holidays for any school library books and return them to us in Week 1 of next term. At times children take books home without them being issued and we would love them back!

Kauri Studio: NO NEW BORROWING will take place in TERM 4. Due to studio renovations we need to pack and move the entire library. Please use your local library if you wish to get any extra books for your child to read.

Totara Studio: Borrowing will finish in Week 4, Term 4.

Children’s Art Work/PTA Calendars

All orders for PTA calendars should have been handed in on Wednesday, 26 September

Primary School Summer Uniform for Term 4

Please note, it is compulsory for all Junior Campus students to wear KingsWay School hats or KingsWay school caps in Term 4.

School sandals (rather than school socks and shoes) are recommended but not compulsory.

Kauri Studio is on the Move – Boxes Needed

In Week 5 of Term 4, the Kauri studio students are relocating to the Senior Campus. We need boxes to pack resources into for the move. Banana and Apple boxes are great as they have strong lids and don’t crush easily, or if you have moved recently and have standard sized boxes would also be appreciated.

Please stack your donated boxes on the left hand side of the hall. Your help is appreciated.

Lost Property

Please note that the lost property for this term is displayed in the foyer.

Unnamed, unclaimed lost property will be re-purposed on Friday morning.

Operation Christmas Child

Please consider filling an Operation Christmas Child box this holiday. This is more than just giving a child some gifts. You might be instrumental in giving a child the gift of Life. MANY children come to Christ in this ministry. Please pick up a box (or boxes) and a boy/girl flier from reception by Friday (last day of term).

More information can be found on https://www.samaritanspurse.org.au/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/

Please return filled boxes containing all items suggested in flier and your $9 donation for shipping, to Junior Campus reception by Wednesday, 24 October.

Touch Rugby – Coaches needed

Due to the number of registrations received for Touch, we are in need of coaches in order to enter teams. Support will be given to those who are able to help out, if needed. This may be of interest to Senior students who have played Touch Rugby in the past. Coaches are not always required to be at the games if the team has a manager, although it is preferable that they are.

Games are on Wednesdays after school at Victor Eaves Park, Orewa.

Please email Raelene.Beguely@kingsway.school.nz to volunteer as soon as possible.

Christmas Parade Float

Every year, KingsWay Junior Campus puts a float together for the Orewa Christmas Parade. This event is being held on the afternoon of Saturday, 24 November.

Is there anyone who would like to lead the team for this year’s parade?

Please email Raelene.Beguely@kingsway.school.nz to find out more.
