Junior Campus Notices - Week 4, Term 1

KingsWay School —

Please read the following parent notices for the Junior Campus.

Note from Jenny Harvey:

Dear Parents

Oh, sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth! (Ps 96:1)

We are so excited about the opportunities that lie ahead of us as we enter into a new year!

The modifications that have been made to the two studios and the significant difference it has made to the learning spaces have been evident since day 1, with teachers and students anticipating its positive impact on learning. Increased flexibility created by providing more break out spaces has meant we now able to allocate quiet learning areas to our ESOL students, our students who require quiet one on one or small group support, as well as a space for students needing to unwind or have a sensory break. Parents who have not yet popped in to see the changes are invited to do so.

Sadly, Mrs Sian Bonner will be leaving us at the end of this term. Sian has been such a blessing to us in the short time she has been on staff and we pray our LORD’s blessing on her and her family as she moves into this next season. Please join us as we pray for a teacher to replace her.

Thank you to all the parents for all you have done to assist us in making the start to the year so smooth and easy for the children, and welcome to the many new families and children who have joined our KingsWay community. May you settle in quickly and make wonderful new friends as you journey with us in the years to come.

I roto i ngā mahi ki te Atua’

The first YEAR 5 Parent Roll out Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, 20 March at 7pm in the Totara Studio on the Junior Campus.

Please note:

  • Students will only be allowed to bring their laptop to school after their parent/s have attended one of the Parent meetings.
  • Parents need NOT to purchase OFFICE 365 for their child’s laptop, as this is provided by the school.

All the students have been participating in the school’s digital programme which combines the L- Plate with aspects of the Common Sense Education Programme. Each week a brief from Common Sense Media explaining what has been covered and learned has been sent home, ensuring that the parents are able to learn alongside the students. In addition to this, a letter explaining how Common Sense Media works was sent as an attachment with the newsletter. Please contact your child’s Y5/6 home base teacher if you have missed out on any of this information.

Keeping Children Safe Walking Home

Parents please ensure you know which route your child is walking to get home and you have discussed road safety with your child. Students should NOT be crossing the road at the intersection between Bonair Crescent and Millwater Parkway. We advise that all students in Y0 - Y4 be accompanied by an adult supervisor if walking home.

Hockey for Years 3 - 6

Over the past 3 years our Junior Campus has been a-buzz with students registering for Hockey. Every year we managed to register 4 Teams from Years 3 – 6. We’re hoping to top that this year!

Parents, please discuss with your child/ren the possibility of having Hockey as their winter sport. Fitness is only ONE of the reasons why children should be encouraged to take part in team sports; there are many, many more reasons!

Please go onto the school website to register your son/daughter BEFORE 01 March 2019: CLICK HERE

Please CLICK HERE for further details about a FREE trial on Saturday, 2 March.

Registrations for Primary Football (Years 1-6) close THIS COMING MONDAY, 25 February  (please note the change of date).

The 2019 Winter Football season starts at the end of Term 1 through to Term 3.

Football is a popular sport for girls and boys at the Junior Campus. We endeavour to keep friends and classmates together when forming teams. Games are played through the Hibiscus Coast Football Club. KingsWay School parents coach and manage the teams but the students play in Hibiscus Coast Football colours.

Games are played on Saturday mornings from April to September, with coaching sessions either before or after school depending on the availability of the coaches and players.

There is now a Girls' League where girls' teams play only against other girl teams. This league starts from 9th Grade.

Please ensure that registrations are completed by Friday, 1 March as it helps with the administration and organisation of teams. We strongly encourage parents and caregivers to volunteer to coach or manage teams. We cannot enter teams without a coach or a manager.
