Senior School Notices, 24 September 2020
Dear Parents,
It is hard to believe that we are already at this stage in the year. We hope and pray that as Term 3 comes to a close you are able to find time to reconnect with students after a busy round of assessments and schoolwork.
While as a school we have not specifically focussed on it, due to the wide range of end of term activities already happening, it is Mental Health Awareness week this week. One of the many factors that can sometimes play into negative emotional outcomes for teens is social media. The Year 12’s are currently going through a documentary that you may also find interesting to watch called ‘The Social Dilemma’. It could provide some interesting pathways into a discussion around this in your home if you also watch it. It is available on Netflix.
Student Leaders for 2021
This Monday during our leadership assembly we were excited to officially recognise our student leaders for 2021. As a school, we highly value our mission statement as we strive to ‘nurture young people towards their full potential as servant leaders in the Kingdom of God’. Prefects, heads of councils and council members were all recognised during this assembly and Mr Budler encouraged these students to lead with a strong sense of purpose undergirded by the fact that they will be leading as servant leaders in the Kingdom. We really look forward to seeing these young leaders develop in their respective giftings next year.

Model United Nations
The Model United Nations group met on Thursday last week and hosted a successful event. Approximately 40 students registered for this event where they each became representatives for a mock United Nations debate on Border Disputes, largely focussing on India and Pakistan. It was encouraging to see students this year take the quality of debate to another level and challenge each other based on historical and geographical issues that play into the disputes between these nations. Well done to Joy Xu, Macey Taylor and Mikael Jung for organising and planning this event and a big thank you to Miss Coombridge for stepping in as UN Secretary.
Year 13 Unleash Conference
This Friday Year 13 students will be taking part in the Unleash conference day here on site. It is a chance for students to spend the day with a range of talks centred around what living an authentic life outside of school looks like. We feel this is an important topic to cover as they enter into their last few months at KingsWay. We are fortunate to be able to run this event on-site in the current climate, with a range of speakers sharing Biblical truth. It should be an awesome opportunity to finish a challenging term as a Year 13 group, and we are praying that God would speak to each student as we worship together, listen to speakers, and take part in a range of workshops. Praise God that we can safely run an event like this and bless our students in this way.

Derived Grade Exams
In week 2 of next term (Mon 19 – Fri 23 October), students in Years 11-13 will be scheduled time to either sit examinations or use time for practical subject work. In a year disrupted by COVID, these examinations are potentially more important than normal as we use them to measure progress, ascertain achievement and gather evidence of learning. Thus, we ask for all students to approach this week diligently. A timetable for the week is attached and students need only come to school for the examinations although a study space is available in the library. Some students do have clashes and will be notified of when alternate sessions will take place. For students in Year 10, normal classes will proceed but with the following changes. There will be no period 4 class, lesson times are increased to 60 minutes and students will finish at an earlier time of 3pm.

Y13 Graduation Graduation
Y13 Graduation Graduation invitations were emailed to all parents last week. Please complete the RSVP form by TOMORROW, Friday, 25th September. The theme for the Graduation event is elegant and formal and tickets are purchased for parents attending as well as the graduating student. A light meal of finger food will be served. With the cancellation of the Year 13 School Ball, please note that there is an option to pay for Graduation tickets using your School Ball credit/refund (if applicable) – limit 3 tickets if using your credit. Additional tickets will need to be paid for separately. We look forward to sharing this special event with students, parents and staff.
Year 10 End of Year Program
Plans are currently underway for the Year 10 end of Year program in week 8 of Term 4. The first day of this program includes a work experience day on Monday 30th November. This will involve students identifying a workplace that they would like to get experience in and contacting a company to see if they can be involved for one day. We encourage students to start thinking about the industries they may want to target for this now.
Kindest Regards
Daniel Benette
