Options Evening and Subject Selection

Today all Year 11-13 students are out for the afternoon at the North Shore Careers Expo. This is an important time for students to gain information about different career and study options. We encourage you to have follow-up conversations with students over the next several days as subject selection will be occurring early next term.

In Week 1 of Term 3, you are warmly invited to the Senior School Options Evening. During this time, there will be some short presentations about NCEA and Pathways/Careers. Following this, students and parents will have two weeks to complete the subject selection for 2022

  • Date: Thursday 29th July.
  • Time: 6:30 pm -8pm
  • Venue: Event Centre, followed by faculty areas.
  • Closing date for Subject selection: Friday 13th August

At the start of Term 3, the 2022 Options Booklet will be made available to you. Subjects for next year will be the same as this year, so we encourage you to look through this year’s Options Booklet here and begin to think about subject selection.
(Note: while the subjects will stay the same, some course-related costs and other details will change slightly).

NCEA Information

Preparation is also underway for the end-of-year NCEA examinations for students in Year 11-13. They will spend some time in Form class over the coming weeks to go through the attached information and make sure they can access the NZQA portal, if they have not already done so.

Axis

Some further resources follow here that we pray will find use and value in your homes to engage in quality conversations with your teens. If you missed the last newsletter, we included parental guides for apps such as Tik Tok, Snapchat, YouTube, and Instagram. In light of some of the media stories this week in the NZ Herald around Snapchat bullying in North Shore schools, we feel it is more important than ever that our young people equip themselves positively in this area.

Continuing this theme, we wish to share with you, ideas around Smartphones and Smartphone Addiction. We realise this is not an easy topic to navigate with your teens and hope these guides can provide context and insight into their worlds.

School Reports

Senior School reports will be available on Friday 9th July, the last day of Term 2.

Outdoor Education – Matapouri

In Week 8 the Level 2 Outdoor Education class travelled to the Matapouri area for Surf Camp. The conditions were great for all levels of surfing, and students applied their skills on the offshore waves of the stunning Sandy Bay. With the assistance of NZ Surf Academy, students completed 5 sessions in the water, as well as completing an assessment on social responsibility and leadership for their NCEA studies. It was an amazing 3 days outside of the classroom and another highlight of the year for these students. It was great to see beginners of surfing catching and standing up on waves, and some of the more experienced students demonstrating their skills. Matapouri is an amazing part of the country to visit, and we were so blessed with favorable conditions and clean waves for the week.
