Cricket Zone Day - Umpires Needed

Do you know any students at school (Year 9-13), university, or adults who could help with umpiring for the upcoming Year 5 & 6 HBC Cricket Zone day on Thursday, 16 March? They will only need basic cricket knowledge and/or be interested in helping. A training session is being planned for the umpires to attend before the day.

Middle School Notices

Message from Vanessa Gatman - Deputy Principal Middle Years

Kia Ora Parents, Caregivers and Whānau,

We are continuing to support our students as they establish routines and step up to expectations. Our Middle School culture values individual and collective responsibility. That means we all have a part to play in ensuring we look after one another, speak and behave respectfully, manage ourselves and take responsibility when we don't do this well. We see it as a privilege to support our students while they navigate growth in these areas. Our heart is to see them overcome challenges, grow resilience and celebrate their wins both in Godly character and learning. Our Equipping Families night on 13th March is a way for us to support you with this by providing practical tools and strategies. Topics such as Identity, Puberty, Social Media & Image, and Confidence & Composure will be covered. We have a range of outside speakers coming to present. Please put this in your diary.

Next Tuesday, we have our Parent Fun Night which you are invited to attend with your children. There will be a sausage sizzle, games and opportunities to connect with other parents, teachers and students. Please join us if you can. It will be a fun night!

Next Wednesday, we have our Middle School Top House event. This is a fun day to build culture, increase connection across the year levels and have fun. A big thank you to Mrs Stephanie Pollock for her hard work in preparing for this.

Please note two important details on our travel plan:

1. Drop-offs and picks up must not happen in Longmore Lane before or after school. The health and safety implications make this unsafe, especially with the high congestion of buses.

2. Pick-ups must not happen on Jelas Rd after school. The congestion to traffic flow and disruption to local residents makes this difficult.

Thank you for supporting us with this.

Payments Overdue - Middle School Activity, Subject & Wider Learning Costs

We would like to remind you that payment for Middle School 2023 activities, subjects, stationery subscriptions and wider learning options was due last month. Currently, there are still significant amounts outstanding, and without funds, we may not be able to run planned Term 1 trips/events.

ACTION REQUIRED:

  1. Login to the Kamar Portal and go to the financial section to view the status of your child's account.
  2. Pay any outstanding Activity, Subject, Stationery or Wider Learning costs as soon as possible.

Payment plans can be set up for the Activity and Subject costs - to view the payment plan options go to the school website HERE, then select the Activity & Subject Costs document for your child's year level. Please note that stationery subscription items and wider learning (WDL) costs are NOT included in the payment plan options - these need to be paid now.

Middle School Top House

Wednesday, 8 March

Students come to school dressed in their whānau colours for a day of fun and competition. Classes are also competing for the 'Unified Cup,' so they will be dressing up for that too. They need a hat, sunscreen and a change of clothes in case they get wet. Normal school hours and bell times.

ESOL Parent Meeting

Thursday, 9 March | 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Venue: K102 (Te Kāinga)
This meeting is for all parents/caregivers of students in:
  • Middle School LEX programme | Year 10 ESOL | Senior ESOL

Mrs Becker and Ms Swanepoel will explain how these ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) programmes are run. Please come along and hear about what we provide at KingsWay, what the expectations are for each class, and meet your child’s ESOL teachers.

Equipping Families Evening

Monday, 13 March - 7:00 pm

We are excited to offer the opportunity for Middle School (Years 7-9) parents to attend an Equipping Families evening. There are a variety of workshops available for a parent or significant adult to attend with their child. Students can attend any sessions with a mum, dad or significant adult (it doesn’t have to be mother/daughter, or father/son). The aim is to support families as they negotiate the Middle School years and provide some practical tips and tools they can implement in their relationships. Below is an outline of the times, topics, presenters and venues. We look forward to seeing you there.

Middle Years Wellbeing - Deans

At KingsWay School, we aim to promote the importance of attendance across the school community. We must continue to work together to do all we can to prioritise our students’ attendance at school so that they can enjoy their learning and socialising with their peers. Students need every opportunity to learn, participate, and flourish by regularly attending school or kura.

We would also like to emphasise the importance of being at school on time to support your child’s academic success and sense of well-being. School starts at 8.45 am Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday, and 9:00 am on Wednesdays.

Students need to be in their class before the bell so that they:

  • can connect with their friends and teacher
  • are organised and ready for learning
  • can listen to important notices and find out about sporting, cultural, and extension opportunities
  • start the day calmly with a positive frame of mind
  • form habits that will set them up for success
