NCEA Level 1 Relaunch (Investigation Phase)
Annual Plan Target:
Teachers to keep updated on MOE changes to NCEA Level 1 standards.
Teachers to work on developing new teaching plans and assessments where relevant.
Use Teacher Only Day (TOD) strategically to maximise effectiveness.
Background
The aim of the review, mandated by the Ministry of Education, is to explore how best to use the solid foundation of NCEA to build an improved national assessment system, one which reflects the changing times and supports the needs of students leaving school to enter the modern workforce.
Progress
Progress can only occur as the MOE provides the relevant information. A decision has been made to use the Accord Days in 2021 and 2022 for preparation. MOE will provide information on the new Literacy and Numeracy standards and assessment on 13 May 2021. Decisions will then be made as to whether to trial these in the Year 10 programme in 2022. We will implement the new standards in 2023. This will give teachers sufficient time to prepare and plan for changes.
- Day 2 (August 2021): NCEA level 1 standards will be available to review
- Day 3 (November 2021): work on local curriculum
