Junior Campus Notices - Week 1, Term 3

KingsWay School —

Please read the following parent notices for the Junior Campus.

Assistant Head of Primary Article:

It was quite a sight… two raincoat-clad children trudging their bikes up the path, icy wind, sporadic freezing rain showers, with Mum (the hero of the story) bringing up the rear. It wasn’t something you see very often these days. I gave them a big cheer and told the Mum how impressed I was; these two girls are being set up for success, and they are building resilience.

Resilience is a bit of a ‘buzz’ word these days. It is the ability to adapt well to adversity, to bounce back and recover. In today’s society, anxiety is showing significant increase in younger students. It is compounded by students have a more sedentary existence, with less risk taking opportunities. Being a parent is challenging; how do you keep your sanity, grow your child and pay the bills?

We are blessed to see a lot of great parenting at KingsWay school with things such as keeping routines, ensuring strong emotional connections, having fun as a family, helping others, discipleship and healthy boundaries. All of which are foundational to growing resilient, strong, secure and connected children.

Facing physical, social, and learning challenges are a key to growth. The ability to work through a problem, face the frustration and find a resolution (without being rescued), grows self-confidence in the children’s own abilities. We love our children so seeing them struggle or being upset is hard but it is that frustration and working through an issue that causes adaption and growth. Allowing children to experience challenges, empowering them through them, (sometimes even stepping back - but always reconnecting), is great parenting.

So, the next time Soccer practice is in the rain, rug them up, send them off and give them a warm blanket and a milo at the end. When they face a challenge, let them have the struggle and the victory. Be present, but do not rescue them. Are they bored with no device? Wonderful! Creativity will bloom (after the tears). If they are at the end of their tether with frustration, good! They are about to adapt and grow. Let them walk further than they think they can, or ride to school, even when it is cold and in the middle of winter. Keep doing a great job in growing resilience in your children!

Messages to Children During School Hours

There has been a noticeable increase in the number of parents phoning in to the Primary office, wanting messages to be delivered to their children.

Please note that reception staff are not permitted to leave the office unattended, and will no longer be able to do this unless in a real emergency.

Please ensure that your children know how they are going home each day and if a change in plan cannot be avoided, then let the office know by 1pm, so that the teaching staff can be given the message at lunchtime.

Junior Campus Foyer After School

The Junior Campus staff require the support of all parents and caregivers to please vacate the Junior Campus foyer as quickly as possible after school.

We have various sports teams, Kumon Mathematics and The sKids After School Programme operating in this area from 3.05pm. They are finding it increasingly challenging to instruct their students and run their programmes effectively.
