Senior School News and Notices

KingsWay School —

Dear Parents and Caregivers

We are grateful to be able to welcome students back on site this week and to see teaching and learning take place in classrooms. While teaching online is possible, it is no substitute for being in the same room with students and being able to gauge where they are at with their learning. With this in mind, we encourage you to regularly ask how students are going in their courses and give feedback to the LifeLab teachers in the first instance. If you do find your family having to self-isolate, please notify the Principal by using the COVID Notification Form on our website and let the relevant LifeLab teacher know, as well as a member of the SMT (contact details below) so we can better co-ordinate getting resources to students. As communicated previously, the general plan in this instance is to start lessons through Microsoft Teams for the first 20 mins of the double periods and send through student work via Teams as well.

Study Periods

We realise students may still be adjusting to the new timetable in 2022. Some clarity for Year 11-13 students. If a student has Study period first thing in the day, they do not have to come to school until the commencement of their timetabled class or LifeLab. The same applies for Study in the afternoon. Students are permitted to leave. If students have Study in the middle block of lessons, they are required to be on site. It is important however that students either sign in or sign out on the Library Vistab so we have an accurate record of students on site.

Year 13 Ignite Day

It was a pleasure to kick start our Year 13’s with a full and fun day of activities last week. Although we were unable to go forward with our normal Y13 camp experience, it was still a privilege to work with our new student leaders. Students were split into small groups and completed a variety of physical challenges, before heading into Orewa for an Amazing Race. Some students travelled more than 10kms over the course of the day in the hot, humid conditions – but were rewarded with a dip in the ocean to cool off. On returning to school, we had an awesome time of worship followed by a unique ‘Sing Down’. Every year, the students impress us with their energy, enthusiasm and teamwork. This was evident this year even more so as we adapted to Covid parameters. The 2022 theme for our Year 13 cohort is based from Matthew 5.13-16. We have challenged students to be a light to their community. We are excited for what God has in store for them all this year.

Deans

As per the table below, we have a slightly different structure for deans this year. Mrs Stammers and Mr Forrest are overseeing Year 12 and Year 13’s. Mr Gideon Robertson is joining our team as a Senior Campus Dean. He will assist mentoring of a smaller number of Middle School and Senior School students.
