Primary Prayer Room

KingsWay School —

‘The prayer of a righteous person has great power’ – James 5: 16

This term the Junior Campus hosted their very first Prayer Room. The Prayer Room was set up in a room in the new Junior Studio and all the classes had the opportunity to book a time slot during the week, to visit the room and to engage with various prayer stations.

The Prayer Room was created along the lines of an international initiative, 24/7 Prayer. 24/7 Prayer is an interdenominational, international movement of prayer, mission and justice. There are prayer rooms happening around the world, at every minute of the day and we were thrilled to be a part of this, for just one week. We opened the prayer room for bookings before school and after school for families to experience, as well as the slots during the school day for classes.

Interactive prayer stations filled the KingsWay Prayer Room encouraging children and teachers to pray for themselves, their immediate worlds and the greater world that we’re part of. Things like scrabble tiles reminded us of all the things in our lives that we’re grateful to God for, blowing bubbles prompted us to pray our worries away and to release them to God, there were opportunities to make cards for lonely people in resthomes and some little tents provided safe and secluded places for students to be by themselves, enjoying some time with God. As well as many other fun and thought-provoking stations.

Our hope and our prayer in providing this interactive space for students was to show them some different ways to pray, to encourage them to pray for others in practical ways and to guide them into using some spiritual formation ‘tools’ with the goal of incorporating these into everyday life. It was a joy and a privilege to see this prayer space be used and enjoyed by all the wonderful Tamariki we have.
