Year 8 Trip to Tree Adventures

In Week 5 of Term 2 the Year 8 students went to Tree Adventures in Woodhill Forest. It is a high ropes course that is graded in difficulty levels. The highest level we were able to go to with height restrictions was level 8 which reaches heights of 14 meters! Amazingly, we were blessed with stunning weather on both days. What made my heart sing as a teacher was how the students challenged themselves and supported each other. Although the courses are completed individually, it was the encouragement from the team that spurred some students on to continue to the end. If young people are not given opportunities to safely take risks and push themselves out of their comfort zone, they miss out on the feelings of accomplishment they feel when they achieve hard things.

In the words of some of our students...

“I was scared at first, but my friends helped me overcome my fear.”
“I am normally scared of heights but during tree adventures, I went higher than I would normally go. I also thought my friend would be dragging me up but instead, I was dragging her up.”
“I overcame my fear of heights. Tree Adventures helped me to be confident when being around other people.”

What a privilege it is for our students to have these types of experiences to grow and learn from.
