Community Update, 30 September 2021

KingsWay School —

A Note from Graeme Budler, Executive Principal

Dear KingsWay Community,

I think it is acceptable to celebrate the forthcoming holiday break. I think we all need a rest before we negotiate Term 4. It is difficult at this stage for anyone to predict the start of Term 4’s Alert Level. However, I assume we will be at Alert Level 2, which means the return of staff and students to KingsWay. Please familiarise yourself again with KingsWay’s Alert Level 2 Protocols. We will update this document should the Ministry of Education share additional information.

I aim to send the next community update before 6 pm on Thursday, 14 October. This timing allows staff to prepare and for me to update the community in the unlikely eventuality that Auckland remains at Alert Level 3.

We applied for an exemption for a few Year 13 classes to attend school under Alert Level 3. They are permitted on the Senior School site on Friday, 15 October, if we remain at Alert Level 3 or at an agreed time if Auckland moves to Alert Level 2. We have granted a few additional Senior School permission to be onsite under Alert Level 2 should Auckland move to this level during the holiday break. They must follow KingsWay’s Alert Level 2 Protocols, including signing in on our VisTab device using the blue COVID Contact Tracing button and cannot be onsite unless supervised by a teacher.

I am exceptionally proud of how our staff have stepped up during this time. We have prepared several iterations of timetable and programme adjustments ready to adapt to most eventualities. Please reassure your children that it won’t be business as usual when they return, and we will do our best to be responsive to their unique needs.

Congratulations to our Year 13 leaders for 2022. We aim to celebrate and commission your appointments in 2022.

God bless,

Graeme Budler
Executive Principal

2022 Senior Student Leaders

Congratulations to all of these students (view here) who have been appointed into formal leadership roles next year. We are excited about what next year holds and look forward to seeing these young people grow as they serve and lead our student body. Please note that we will pray and commission these students at an appropriate time in the future when alert levels allow.

Wellbeing

Navigating Digital Spaces of Gen Z

Thank you to those who tuned in last night for our special broadcast with Laidlaw College. It was great to hear from the Laidlaw team around how we can best navigate the increased digital lifestyle that we face with our children, and we hope you gained some further strategies and ideas as to how to journey with your children well in this area. If you would like to replay what was shared then use the link HERE. A copy of Stephen’s slides can also be found HERE

Primary School Notices

As the term comes to an end, so does Mr Barley’s time with us. Jordan has been at KingsWay School since 2015 and it is with great sadness that we bid him farewell. We so value the many and varied contributions he has made in the Primary School, and his exemplary professionalism when interacting with staff, parents and students. He is very highly regarded by his colleagues and much loved by the hundreds of students he has taught. We will certainly miss his gentle, respectful manner, his wonderful sense of humour and his ready smile but we wish him God’s richest blessings as he moves into this next season of his life.

Mrs Donne Van den Berg begins Maternity Leave at the end of this term. Donne will return to us at the start of Term 2 in 2022. Mrs Peta-Ann Ross will be teaching 3DVA until the end of this year.

Middle School Notices

Congratulations to our parents who are nearly there with having supported your children with their Distance Learning along with other lockdown challenges young people face.

Farewell to Lizzy Hagan

Lizzy Hagan has taught in our Middle School as our Performing Arts specialist for the last two and half years. We just love her heart for Jesus and the impact she has had with her skillset in our Middle School. Students and teachers alike are inspired by Lizzy’s positivity, genuine Christian faith and creativity. We look forward to hearing about her next adventures which are still involved in Christian community and children’s ministry.

Au Revoir for now to Lachelle Stacey

Lachelle Stacey will be on maternity leave from the end of this term due to the impending arrival of her baby. We will miss her but are pleased that she will have a gorgeous addition to her family. Her classes are in the capable hands of Mrs Sue Morris in Term 4.

Senior School Notices

Thank you to parents for your patience and support throughout these strange times. As noted in previous communications, you did not sign up to be teachers

Farewell to Richie Bryce

Richie Bryce, a long-serving staff member at KingsWay, is finishing his time with us at the end of this term. He has faithfully served as both teacher and Head of Faculty for 19 years, has been involved in missions, several extracurricular activities including football and mountain biking and cultivated a strong and enduring relationship with the students he has taught and mentored in the ways of God. Richie will be missed a lot by staff and students alike. We wish him all the best in his future endeavors.
