KingsWay School —

NCEA Guidelines

If you have not done so already, it would pay to read the following document that details NCEA procedures CLICK HERE. There are other documents with general information on our NCEA website page CLICK HERE.

Students need to be aware that if an NCEA internal assessment is underway during class time, test conditions apply. This means that they cannot get up and walk out at any time without the teacher’s permission. Thank you for discussing this with students.

AXIS

Axis — Image by: KingsWay School

In our last newsletter we shared how we have partnered with AXIS, a Christian ministry aimed at understanding current youth culture. We hope this kick-started conversations with your teen around today's issues. Our suggestion is to set aside an hour each week to dive into these topics. The focus last time was on how to have difficult conversations around faith and belief. See HERE for the resources.

This week, we encourage you to enter into our teenagers’ world and explore what it means to be part of Gen Z. Click HERE for details. A massive part of the world today revolves around Social Media, which some describe as more addictive than cigarettes and alcohol. This GUIDE delves into what this looks like for Gen Z and some practical tips.

A key takeaway is that despite pressures and rapid changes, our young people still need relationships, connection, love, and Jesus. Our prayer is that these can be fostered positively within your homes.

World Vision Conference

World Vision 2021 — Image by: KingsWay School

Recently a group of KingsWay Senior students had the privilege of attending the World Vision leadership conference. World Vision is well known for supporting vulnerable children and helping to overcome poverty in many regions around the globe. Their goal is to help empower communities to become self-sufficient and bring real, lasting change. World Vision’s effectiveness flows from having more than 20,000 partners globally including churches, schools, and many other community organisations.

KingsWay is partnering with World Vision by doing the 40-hour famine to raise funds to help children in poverty. This is a very worthwhile endeavor and the challenges of COVID make it even more pressing. Globally, there is a lot of inequality with nations such as ours living in extreme wealth, while others are impoverished. As someone from a first-world nation, I can help by donating finances to World Vision and promoting others in my school community to get behind this good cause. I am so excited to see the difference we are going to make as a school.

Level 2 & 3 Tourism Trip

Travel and Tourism — Image by: KingsWay School

The Year 12 and Year 13 Tourism classes recently engaged in a two-day Adventure short course with ITC (International Travel College). Students gained credits by learning key communication skills required for the Tourism industry. The highlight on the second day was participating in the Harbour Bridge Bungy and bridge walk! Along with an amazing experience, they learned that the Tourism industry is still alive and kicking despite the recent challenges facing the world. We look forward to continuing to give our students practical experiences, knowledge, and skills needed in the tourism industry.

Outdoor Education

Our Level 2 Outdoor Education students have been busy taking advantage of the positive surf conditions at Orewa over the past two days. Working with NZ Surf School, the class which consists of a range of surfing abilities were working on their skills at Orewa this week. It was awesome to see so many smiles on faces throughout the sessions. Students are building up towards a three-day surf camp later this term. Praise God for the freedom to participate in Education Outside the Classroom, and for the beautiful resources to use in our local environment.

Parents' Night

Are you starting to feel like the generation gap is a grand canyon? To help equip you, we are currently planning a parents' night for Week 9 this term. The aim of this is to address social media and culture. Further details will be sent out as we finalise details, including some external speakers.

Year 13 Conference - 'Unleashed to Influence'

On the final day of Term 2, Friday 9th July, we will be running another Conference Day for Year 13 students. The theme for this special day will be around ‘Unleashed to Influence’. There will be guest speakers and workshops to equip our senior leaders to live a life in faith outside of KingsWay.
