Year Three Newsletter
Term 1 Week 1
Dear Whānau
Welcome to the Year Three Owhanga!
It has been an unusual start to the year, but we are thankful to be returning to normal schooling next week. We are so excited to be partnering with you and are looking forward to a busy, fun-filled year.
There are three teachers in the Year three cohort; Mrs Donné van den Berg who will be the Head of Learning Area (HoLA), Miss Karen Pretorius known as Miss K, and Miss Maryke Strydom. The class names are Red Admiral Butterflies (Kahukura), Dragonflies (Kapowai) and Black Swans (Kakāinau)
Please see an introductory newsletter from your child's teacher by clicking on the links below:
Other teachers:
Mrs Simone Coles will take the children for Library on a Thursday. Please ensure you send library bags to school on this day.
Mrs JvR (Monique van Rensburg) will take the children for PE on a Thursday. Please send your child to school dressed in their PE kit which can be purchased from the uniform shop. The children may remain in their PE kit for the day. Please make sure that your children wear school socks and black trainers on the day that they have PE lessons.
Mrs Lorraine Henry will take the children for Spanish on Thursdays.
Requests:
If possible, please could you send a pack of wet wipes and a box of tissues to school with your child for the class to use.
Please could you also send all your child's stationery and workbooks to school with them on Tuesday morning. We will sort it out together as a class.
Communication:
The best way to communicate with your child’s teacher is via email. You are also welcome to pop into the studio before or after school to make an appointment with your child’s teacher should you need to. There is a 24 hour turn around time on answering emails. Please ensure that your child’s teacher is your first line of communication.
Brain food:
Please send a small, healthy snack for your child to consume at the start of the school day. A small fruit such as an apple, mandarin, a handful of blueberries etc. is usually the best.
Home Learning:
Home Learning will be sent home each week, please help your children to remember to complete and return their Home Learning Books each Friday. Their Home Learning will be checked, and the new learning pasted in ready for a new week of learning on Monday.
Students will begin their home learning programme in week 3. The home learning expectations will be glued into the front of their home learning book. During week 2, we will be completing the majority of the home learning during class time, so that the children are aware of the expectations surrounding home learning.
The home learning expectations:
Memory verses: Students learn their weekly memory verse and recite it on Friday.
Reading: Please sign your child’s reading cards daily. Readers at your child’s level will be sent home.
Mathematics: Students will receive a login for a new mathematics programme called Maths-Whizz. You will be notified of the expectations with regards to Maths Whizz.
Spelling: Students are to practice their spelling words daily. They are expected to write their words in well-constructed and correct sentences weekly. The words are tested at the end of each week.
WOW Word: Students are to write a well-constructed and correct sentence using their word of the week.
Please note that at the start of the year it can take a few weeks for Maths Whizz to be up and running for our classes. We greatly appreciate your patience with this.
