Arts - Senior Campus ARTS WEEK

KingsWay School —

KingsWay School Arts students were very excited this term to have our first combined Middle and Senior School Arts Week for 2022! After a crazy few years, our students were finally able to display their wonderful work to a live audience. This year, we had not one, not two, but three shows, all hosted in the Senior School Event Centre. It was very exciting to transform this space into an arts extravaganza for the entire week - our Performing Arts students have worked incredibly hard in classes this year for their music, dance and drama performances; as well as amazing works completed by our Visual Arts students. The foyer of the Event Centre was transformed into an artistic exhibition, with multiple pieces from some of our Middle School students, as well as Visual Arts students in Senior School. The audience was able to view these incredibly imaginative works at the show. We are so proud of these students, as they bring so many diverse and creative ideas to their portfolios, and it was fantastic for them to showcase this.

Our Middle School Show, hosted by members of the Middle School Arts Council, took place on Tuesday 27 September, and was a combination of Dance, Drama and Music pieces from curriculum classes and Wider Learning. The Middle School Choir and individual students performed musical pieces, our Year 9 Dance students performed musical theatre and contemporary dances, and two Wider Learning options performed dance and drama items. There were also spoken word and Sign Language items, which brought a new and exciting aspect.

Our Senior School Drama and Music Show, on Wednesday 28 September, was the first combined Drama and Music evening we have hosted at KingsWay. The audience experienced all the Year 10-13 students’ hard work from their curriculum classes. There were items of comedy, realism, jazz music, absurdism, solo performances, various instruments, compositions, and clowning to name a few. It was a great mixture of live theatre and live music!

The Senior School Dance Showcase is always a highlight, and 2022 was no different. Our Year 10-13 Dance students have been working very hard on a variety of performances and genres, including hip-hop, jazz, tap and musical theatre. Their performances on Friday 30 September were an opportunity to showcase their efforts.

We are all so incredibly proud of every student who has been involved, whether it was performing or helping out, and would like to thank them for their hard work, effort and consistency over this year. We would like to acknowledge the Arts' teachers who have worked with these students over the year Claire Trebilco, Mahaylia Stevenson and Sophie Catterall in Dance, Mary Morgan in Visual Art, Sam Hagen and Sophie Catterall in Drama, Cindy van Engel-Kal for the Spoken Word item, Michelle Dunnion for the Sign Language item, and Breanne Beckett, who works with the Middle School Arts Council. Arts Week 2022 was one for the books, and we are already looking forward to next year’s event!
