New Timetable - Senior Campus

KingsWay School —

New Timetable – Senior Campus

The new Senior campus timetable has officially been launched. After two years of planning and anticipation, we are delighted to be underway this term.

The school timetable is a construct that allocates time for all learning activities within a normal week. As part of a regular evaluation cycle, the existing timetable underwent a review, the goal of which was to maximise our ability to deliver a quality Christian education programme.

This was no small challenge with many variables and implications to consider. After consultation with many stakeholders and critique of many iterations, it is with great pride that we now present to you the new timetable. A timetable that we believe achieves the goal above and will be of significant benefit to all Year 7-13 students.

So, what has changed?

We have adopted more long blocks of time. This means that students move around campus less to ensure that learning time isn’t lost throughout the day. Longer blocks of 85 minutes allow for deep learning, a wider range of learning activities, and greater flexibility for how staff structure their programme.

This longer time is so valuable for delivering an exciting programme. Students have time to complete science experiments, cook, go on physical education excursions, complete visual arts activities, rehearse dance routines and drama performances, and complete NCEA assessments.

Life Lab

A key part of the timetable is the newly introduced Life Lab. Described as ‘devotions on steroids,’ this programme is designed to engage our students through the following strands: Discipleship – growing in personal faith, Scripture – deepening understanding of the Bible, Community – loving God and loving others, and LifeSkills – authentically engaging with the world. This programme is so important to who we are as a special character Christian school. We look forward to seeing the fruit as teachers invest significantly in the lives of their students during this time.

Wider Learning

Too often in the past, we have heard teachers saying, “if only we had time for…” We have also heard parents saying, “if only KingsWay offered…” Well, now we can officially say we have a space for this.

Introducing Wider Learning: a designated programme where new and exciting courses are on offer once a fortnight on a Monday afternoon. Diving, batik art, sports academies, financial literacy, leadership training, Lego masters, CV and interview skills, sewing, cake decorating, hip hop, apologetics and cinematography are just some of the exciting courses that were offered this semester. It has been a joy to see our young people fully engaged in their learning, and we look forward to seeing what will be offered in semester two.

KingsWay School is committed to continuing to evaluate and enhance our teaching and learning programme. We are excited for new opportunities that are enabled through this timetable, and it is a joy to see so many of our young people thriving and enjoying their learning.
