Junior Campus Notices - Week 10, Term 1

KingsWay School —

Please read the following parent notices for the Junior Campus.

Note from Mrs Harvey

Dear Parents

Last year I won a Sabbatical Award to undertake professional learning, reflection and rejuvenation in 2019.

The professional learning I am focussing on is researching how schools with Innovative Learning Environments (similar to our own) support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, with the aim of improving our own practise at KingsWay School and of sharing the information with other schools.

I will be on Sabbatical for all of Term 2.

Mrs De Gibson will be Acting Head of Primary from Week 1- 5, and Mr Jordan Barley will be Acting Head of Primary from Week 6-10.

I have every confidence in both of these outstanding educators and leaders to ensure the smooth running of the Primary school in my absence.

Please do not hesitate to contact them, if need be:

Staffing News:

Mr William Trayes will not be returning to us next term as originally planned, as he’s moving into a new season with his growing family. We so value the contribution he made to the Year 5/6 Team and wish Him God’s richest blessings in his future endeavours.

We are delighted to welcome Lisa Lin to our staff next term as our New Entrant Teacher. Lisa has been involved in Early Childhood Education since 2014. She speaks fluent Mandarin and is proficient in Japanese.

As mentioned previously:

Mrs Jay Smit will be away on Maternity Leave for Term 2 and Term 3. We look forward to meeting her new little bundle of joy! Jay will return to us in Term 4.

Mrs Sian Bonner finishes up with us this term, too. Sian has been a tremendous blessing to our school community and we look forward to seeing her around campus in a different capacity.

We are still in the process of appointing staff into the Year 5 and Year 1 classes and will advise you as soon as they are confirmed.

I trust that the Parent Teacher Conferences were valuable and helpful for you in knowing how your children are progressing with their learning.

Thank you for your on-going support in the many and varied forms this takes.

I look forward to catching up with many of you in Term 3, if I don’t see you in the next week or so.

I roto i ngā mahi ki te Atua’

Students Arriving Late to the Junior Campus

It is essential that all children arriving late to school (after the bell has rung) must be accompanied by a parent or guardian to the Junior Campus office. The adult must sign the child in on the Vistab (ipad) as ‘lateness’ and fill in a late pass to be handed to the teacher. Children leaving school before finish time at 3.05pm must be accompanied by an adult and sign ‘leaving’ on the Vistab.

The safety of all students is of great importance to us so we appreciate your assistance in ensuring this process runs smoothly.

Lower Carpark Notice

Parents with older students, are asked to please leave the carparks adjacent to the concrete footpath for those parents with toddlers and babies – and to park in the centre section.

Please reverse into carparks, when possible, for greater visibility when exiting.

It is quite acceptable for our Year 4 - 6 students to be picked up at 3:15- 3:20pm. Arriving a few minutes later will help to reduce congestion in the car park at the busiest time of the day. Year 4 - 6 students could walk down to the carpark and wait for their parents on the footpath.

Reminder: Please do not use the top carpark for afternoon pick-ups, as this becomes a health and safety issue for children as well as inhibiting for the bus being able to exit swiftly at 3.10pm.

NOTE:  It is important that the gates between the admin block (foyer) and lower car park are kept closed within school hours. We appreciate your assistance in keeping our children safe.

sKids Notice

Parents please note that the Ministry of Education requires all students to be pre-enrolled with sKids before they can take part in the sKids Before/After School Care programme and Holiday Programmes.

Donated Muesli Bars

Peanut free muesli bars to be stored in the Kauri and Totara studios:

The Junior Campus is asking for willing parents to donate peanut free muesli bars to be kept in the Studios in the event of a lengthy lockdown. If you are happy to donate a box of peanut free muesli bars, please deliver to the Junior Campus foyer and place in the boxes provided marked Kauri Studio and Totara Studio. Parents with students who have allergies please send a long lasting snack, that is labelled with child’s name and class.

We will ensure there is fresh water available in both studios.

God's Closet

God's Closet offers a ‘free of charge’ kid's clothing and shoe service for Christian families who are financially struggling. The kid’s ages included at God’s Closet is: 0–16 years and is limited to clothing and shoes as these costs are a major financial strain on families when money is already stretched.

To donate very good quality kids clothes and shoes, please either drop them off in the God’s Closet drop-off box at the Junior Campus foyer, or click the email button on the God’s Closet Facebook page.

If your, or another Christian family you know is struggling to make ends meet, please contact Meg on the Facebook page for support: CLICK HERE

KingsWay ASD Movement Program

  • Formula Fit has been the spiritual home of movement for children with ASD in our community for the past 5 years. Based in Silverdale, Formula Fit has worked with a vast number of children on the spectrum working on the mind-body connection, body regulation, major and fine motor control.
  • There are a number of challenges in implementing a fitness program for children with ASD, including access to sports programs, the availability of transportation by parents/carers and the fact that most children experience anxiety in group exercise environments. With this program, we will deliver and implement these programs on premises at Kingsway Junior School before, during or after school.
  • In Term 2, we will have a number of one-on-one sessions available for children to work alongside one of our team for 30 minutes and help identify and develop skills in a range of different activities and exercises.

Being active with movement will help develop a happy, bright and fun child!

For more information feel free to contact Alastair directly at

formulafitnz@gmail.com or 021 777 550.
The program will commence in Term 2.

KingsWay Fit Kids Program

  • Our vision is to inspire and motivate children through movement. Exercise isn’t just about being fitter, faster and stronger physically; but mentally too. By creating positive habits through exercise in young children we aim to continue developing these into adulthood with the vision of a healthier community.
  • The world is developing at a frantic pace and we either choose to keep up or be left behind. Children of the future and today are experiencing this in every aspect of life. We are advocates of technology, however, understanding it has a time and place.
  • Formula Fit Kids sessions are the building blocks of a fit and healthy life and the specialty classes give children a fun, flexible introduction to specialty sports and disciplines.
  • Our philosophy is to help develop the positive attributes of the stereotypical cultures of sports and apply those to the broader spectrum of real-life New Zealand children.

For more information or to enrol your child contact Sarah directly at formulafitnz@gmail.com or via mobile on 021 111 2043

The program will commence in Term 2.
