Te Tiriti o Waitangi Enhancement (Investigation Phase)

Annual Plan Target

1. To grow understanding of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori among staff and students.

2. To improve confidence and fluency of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori among staff and students.

3. To investigate the delivery of te reo Māori for students in the Primary.

Background

To give effect to te Tiriti o Waitangi and to ensure equity and excellence in education we are seeking to improve our understanding of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori.

Progress

We have created opportunities for PD for staff and are encouraging staff to implement their learning in the classroom. All staff participate in biculturalism PD on a regular basis in the Monday afternoon PD sessions. Danyelle from the local Te Herenga Waka o Orewa marae has delivered a 6-week introductory full immersion te reo Māori course onsite which was attended by 22 staff members. we have started investigating possibilities for instruction for our Primary students in the future.
