Primary School News & Notices - Week 2, Term 1

KingsWay School —

A Note from Colette Büdler

We are delighted to welcome you to the start of another exciting year on the Junior Campus. What a great first week! The children are settled, good routines are being established and new learning is happening in and out of class. As a school we value parent partnership and want to work with you for the best outcomes for your child. Face to face communication in the studios is limited, but please do not hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you have any queries or concerns.

Associate Principal / Acting Head of Primary School

Urgent Messages to Students During School Time

Parents wanting to get an urgent message to their child are asked to contact the Junior Campus office by 2.30pm at the latest.

Thank you for your consideration in the matter.

Reporting a Student's Absence from School

It is a Ministry requirement to have a parent explanation of a student’s absence. This allows for the correct attendance code to be assigned. When your child is absent from school the school must be notified. There are various ways you can notify the school. These are all explained on our school website. Please familiarise yourself with these under 'Contact Us/Reporting an Absence' on our school website: CLICK HERE

Children Arriving to School too Early

Our Primary School hours are from 8.55am-3.05pm. Children must NOT be dropped off at school before 8.30am and must leave the school grounds before 3.30pm. Unfortunately the sKids before school programme will not be running for Term 1. For after school supervision please refer to our sKids (Safe Kids in Daily Supervision) programme which is held on the Junior Campus: www.skids.co.nz or email kingsway@skids.co.nz.

Nut Allergy Policy

There are students with Life-Threatening Allergies in the Totara Studio (bottom studio).

It is already KingsWay Junior Campus policy to have no peanuts at school. We also request that you support these students and their families by keeping the Totara Studio completely Peanut and Tree nut free. Please ensure that all food sent with your child is free of peanuts and tree nuts (including almonds).

These students are highly allergic to nuts and may suffer anaphylaxis simply from contact with the allergen - on surfaces or airborne. We therefore request that everyone is very mindful of what they are eating and their hygiene practices before coming to school. For example, please give peanut butter, Nutella, nut bars etc. as treats after school.

As per our policy, please remind your child that they are never to share their food and must wash their hands before and after eating. If you are wanting to bring food to class for a special occasion, e.g. birthday, please contact the teacher 48 hours prior.

We really appreciate your support in keeping all our students safe at the Junior Campus. Please encourage healthy choices in lunchboxes and do not send children to school with lollies etc.

Bus Arrangements

We've had numerous students coming to the reception in the afternoons unsure of whether they are taking the bus or should be waiting on their parents to be picked up. Please ensure that you communicate this clearly to your child should they not be making use of the bus on a daily basis, as this creates a huge amount of uncertainty with them.
