Week 5, Term 3
Kia Ora Koutou Parents, Caregivers and Whānau,
What an exciting week it has been filled with numbers, shapes, and endless fun!
Their measurement skills were put to the test as steady hands built the tallest towers possible. It was a competition that inspired collaboration, problem-solving and communication as they worked in teams to rise to new heights.
There was fun in folding and throwing as our young mathematicians hoped that their plane would go farther than the rest.
They also grabbed pencils, paper and unifix blocks to measure and compare their feet with a friend.
In “Beach ball addition time” our tamariki joined forces with their classmates to solve addition problems by passing around a beach ball with numbers on it; each student took turns with the ball selecting the number for the maths problem.
Another highlight for the New Entrants this week was the fairy bread fractions! They indulged in a delicious treat while mastering fractions! Fairy bread was buttered, sprinkled and divided into halves and quarters. Yum!
By participating in Maths Week at school in Year 1, our young learners not only develop essential numeracy skills but also cultivated a love for mathematics that will stay with them throughout their educational journey.
