Junior Campus Notices - Week 6, Term 4 2019

KingsWay School —

Please read the following parent notices for the Junior Campus.

A Note from Jenny Harvey

Dear Parents

We are so delighted that the modifications to the Totara Studio will be going ahead, as planned.

We have worked closely with the builders to try and minimize its impact on our teaching and learning at the end of the term. Because the middle breakout spaces have already been installed, less time is required for the rest of the modifications to be completed, so we will only be impacted for 10 school days – and only one half of the studio will be affected.

We have a plan in place to accommodate this interruption to our term and the parents of the Whales, Lobsters, Bees, Starfish, Seals, Turtles and Pukeko will have received information from their teachers regarding this.

The rest of the primary school classes will continue with their learning programmes, as per usual.

The end of the term gets busy very quickly and I would like to encourage you to please keep an eye on the calendar for any upcoming events which pertain to your children. The most important ones to note are the Fun Days, the Y6 Graduation and the end of year prize giving ceremonies.

One of the highlights for me, teaching in a Christian School, has been around this time of year when we are able to teach the real meaning of Christmas and of how significant the coming of the Messiah was in the history of mankind. Showing the students how the coming of Jesus was foretold in Genesis, longed for by Old Testament men and women of faith and was the fulfilment of God’s promises, is such a privilege, indeed! I pray that as you prepare for Christmas this year, you will have many opportunities to teach your children about why the birth of Jesus is so significant.

I look forward to seeing many of you in the upcoming events we have planned.

The Cricket Zone Day was held on Thursday, 7 November at Metro Park. It was a fantastic day, with beautiful blue skies and sun all day. Our four teams had a great time and, for some, it was their first time playing Cricket. It was pleasing to see so many girls get involved too.

Special thanks to Heidi Johnson, Sarah Gilroy and Nathan Withers for their help on the day. Also, thanks to the Middle and Senior students who helped with umpiring.

Sun Hats and Sandals

A reminder to all parents that Term 4 is sunhats and sandals term. The Primary summer uniform includes a sunhat. Please ensure your child has a hat to wear when outside during break times and outdoor activities. Students without a hat will be required to remain in the shade during break times. Uniform sunhats can be purchased at the KingsWay Uniform Shop.

Playing Chess at KingsWay School

Playing chess develops self-confidence, concentration and problem-solving skills.

We are really pleased to start a Chess Coaching Programme at our school and look forward to bringing the excitement, competition and educational benefits of chess to our children.

Why Chess?

  • Improve concentration and focus
  • Develop important life skills – fair play and decision making
  • Tactical & Strategic thinking
  • Prepare for Chess Tournaments against other schools
  • Develop a love of chess, of learning and of thinking

What happens in a Chess Power Coaching Programme?

Each session starts with a formal lesson; all players will learn a new strategy, idea or skill each week. Then they put those skills into practice with activities and games. All games are monitored and supervised by the coach who provides individual feedback along the way.

Throughout the programme, we reward kids that do well and encourage and support kids that are struggling. At completion of the programme we recognise each child with a certificate based on their performance.
