Kia ora Parents/Caregivers,

Junior Secondary School along with the assistance of our Senior School Pathways Faculty, have identified a need at KingsWay School for our students/ākonga to connect with the world of work, face-to-face, at a younger age. Evidence shows that students who have at least one or more conversations with an adult/pakeke about work feel more confident about entering the world of work and make more insightful career decisions. 

As part of our World of Work (WOW) Year 10 Programme, we are asking parents/caregivers/whanau to come to school on Monday, 5 December to share their experiences, industries, and knowledge with our students. 

Students will be divided into smaller groups and rotate around guests who will provide them with insightful information. A list of questions will be sent to guests well ahead of time, for preparation. This session will take place from 9:30 am – 13:40 pm. The session will run as follows: 

9:00 – 9:30 am Guests to arrive at Reception 
9:30 – 10:00 am Guests are welcomed on stage and students are given time to guess their careers
(this will be filled in on the paper on their lanyards)
(Guests should try and wear casual clothing, as we don’t want uniforms to give the answer away) 
10:00 – 10:30 am Guests announce their occupations/careers and students tick off all their correct answers
10:30 – 10:45 am Prizegiving (prizes will be handed out to students with the most correct answers) 
10:45 – 11:00 am Morning Tea (guests are moved into position for the Q&A) 
11:00 – 12:45 pm Students rotate in their groups between guests for Q&A 
12:45 – 13:40 am Lunch for guests

We value you as parents/caregivers and your huge input on our young people, we would really appreciate it if you could make yourself available for this event, as it has shown to have a massive impact on the motivation and decision-making of Year 10 students.
